When did New York become Riyadh?

Did you know that dancing was illegal in New York City? Me neither. (Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it's still a good thing Laura takes her lessons here in New Jersey....) Four dancers and a dance organization are suing the city to change that. Three of them and one organization I never heard of, but I have met Meredith Stead, one of the four individual plaintiffs, when my wife and I took pre-wedding (and one post-wedding) dance lessons from her husband, John Knapp, at their Tribeca loft/studio. Meredith and John gave up teaching dance a year or so ago; Meredith is studying to be a lawyer. Now I know why.... (via WFMU's Beware the Blog.)
