"Missouri" is the name I've bestowed upon the content management system I wrote to make There Is No Cat easy to manage. The system was created using PHP, MySQL, and Apache's mod_rewrite, and was originally done for my other weblog, Geneablogy, which tracks my progress in discovering my family history. I wrote it in early 2002 while I was unemployed and had plenty of time on my hands.
One of my design goals was to make the site appear to search engines as a set of static pages so they would index them. I gave each page the name "showme" plus a serial number to differentiate them. Months after I had done that, I figured I should give the system a name. When I looked at the system I had created, one of the things that stood out was the fact that every individual entry was called "showme". Since Missouri is The Show Me State, the name suggested itself.
Also, it's a bit of a shout out to my sister, who went to the University of Missouri. Hi!
I have no intention of publishing the source code. It's just something I did to keep busy and polish my skills while I was out of work while making sure I was using a CMS that had the features I considered important.
