Austin bound

Some wag described South by Southwest Interactive as "spring break for geeks". Good thing, too, because there was no spring break for geeks back when I was in college mumble years ago.

So I’ll wake up early tomorrow morning and my wife will drive me to the train station so I can go to the airport and strap myself into an exploding tin can so that miraculously I’ll put my head down 1500 miles away tomorrow night. I was pretty intimidated by SXSWi last year, had my ass kicked. I think this year’s going to be better. I know more people this year, both the people I met last year who will be attending again and friends I’ve made online over the past year, including one who generously offered to put me up at her house in Austin for the conference.

I’ve been counting the days. I kind of can’t believe it’s almost here and I’m almost there.

Oops. Looks like I’ll have to surrender the card next time I see you, Shirley....

So does that mean that Mike has committed to doing Webstock again, Deb?

G’day Ralph

It was so great meeting you last week. I’m only sorry that we only got to talk twice. Still I guess that is part of the experience of SXSW, I met so many cool people that I barely had a chance to get to know. On the other hand, thanks to the web, actually meeting people is only the beginning!

Hey, Lachlan,

Yeah, it was great meeting you too. I really enjoyed the conversations. The whole WebJam thing that you’ve got going sounds fascinating, like a poetry jam or something except about the web. Very interesting.
